By using ChapterMend you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy describes how your files and information are handled.

What the service is

You send us audio you have already recorded and edited. We analyse it against published retailer technical requirements, repair the technical problems that are safe to repair, master it, and return the processed files with a plain-language report.

What it is not. ChapterMend does not record, narrate, generate or clone voices, and does not edit your performance or your manuscript. It is a technical service applied to a finished recording.

No guarantee of retailer approval

This is the most important term on this page. ChapterMend verifies measurable technical requirements. Retailers including ACX/Audible also apply their own review covering performance, pacing, pronunciation, manuscript accuracy, rights and other judgements that no mastering service can pass on your behalf. A book that passes every ChapterMend check can still be rejected, and no refund is owed on that basis.

We also do not guarantee that every defect can be repaired. Some problems — heavy clipping, strong room echo, misreads — cannot be fixed without damaging the narration. Our scan and report identify these and tell you where they are; recording the fix is yours to do. Retailer rules change; we check against requirements as published at the time of processing.

Customer files and responsibility

ChapterMend processes finished audio files supplied by the customer. ChapterMend does not create narration and does not determine or certify how narration was produced.

You represent that you have all rights, permissions and consents necessary to provide the files to ChapterMend. You are responsible for the content of your files and for complying with applicable laws and the submission, metadata, labeling and disclosure requirements of any retailer, distributor or platform where you choose to use them.

ChapterMend may refuse or stop processing material that it reasonably believes is unlawful, infringes another person’s rights, or cannot be safely processed.

You keep all rights in your recording. We claim no ownership and no licence beyond what is needed to process and return your files.

Payment

Founding beta: $49 per book, up to eight finished hours, paid once, before processing. The free whole-book scan we run when you upload is diagnosis, not processing; it never affects your refund rights.

Refunds and corrections

You may cancel and receive a full refund at any time before processing begins.

If ChapterMend cannot process your book at all, we will issue a full refund. If your delivered files fail ChapterMend’s published technical checks, notify us within 14 calendar days after delivery. We will correct or reprocess the affected files at no charge. If we cannot bring the files into conformity with those checks, we will issue a full refund.

Except where required by law, we do not provide refunds after delivery for reasons outside ChapterMend’s service scope, including a change of mind, problems in the original recording that mastering cannot safely repair, or rejection by ACX or another retailer. Retailers apply their own technical, content, performance, rights and submission requirements, and ChapterMend does not guarantee retailer acceptance.

Where consumer law grants you a withdrawal or cooling-off right, you agree that processing may begin as soon as you ask us to start, and you acknowledge that once your files have been fully processed and delivered, that right ends.

Books longer than eight hours

The founding-beta price covers one audiobook of up to eight finished hours. Books longer than eight finished hours require a custom quote.

If we determine that a submitted book exceeds eight finished hours, processing will be paused until you approve the price. If you decline the custom quote and have already paid, your payment will be refunded in full.

Your files

Your audio is stored privately while your book is processed and deleted automatically 48 hours after delivery — from our processing servers and from cloud storage — as described in the Privacy Policy. Keep your own copies: we are not a backup service, and after deletion your files cannot be recovered.

Availability

The service is provided as-is during the founding beta. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we may change or withdraw features while the beta runs.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChapterMend’s total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid for the book concerned, and ChapterMend is not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost sales, lost profits or missed release dates. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

Independence

ChapterMend is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by ACX, Audible, Amazon, Spotify, Findaway, Apple, Google or Kobo. Those names are used only to describe technical requirements.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and customers with an active book are told by email about anything material.
